Kai Group’s Toenail Clipper

Let’s face it, clipping your toenails isn’t quite up there at your list of “things that I like to do at my free time”. It’s a chore, just like ironing your shirt and sorting your socks. Trust the Japanese to come up with the quick and easy solution to our toenail woes. Seriously, what would we do without you?

So that’s what the Kai Group just did. They look at the way we cut our toenails and reverse engineer the humble toenail clipper. More info and pictures after the jump.

Firstly, they changed the blade aspect from curved to straight. It’s a bold move in a world of curved blades but one that makes complete sense – no one has toenails small enough to be clipped in a single chop (unless you are a cat, or a prissy bird of paradise). They’re also mounted the blade at a slight angle to ease clipping the edges of the nail and to help avoid painfully clipping too close to the quick.

The rest of the clipper also displays Japan’s trademark minute attention to detail and consideration of real world use. The grip is formed from soft elastomer and the “nail splash” plastic housing is removable (where your freshly cut nails are collected).

You can order the straight blade toenail clipper direct from Kai Group’s online store at Rakuten.
